Staging History!
You, more than any other person, will know that studying history helps us understand how events in the past made things the way they are today. With lessons from the past, we learn about ourselves and how we came to be. STAGE IT PRODUCTIONS, founded by Broadcast Historian and Theatre Director, Dr Finola Doyle O’Neill, is a group of people passionate about history and, believe it is best understood, when performed.
From 10.30am-12.30am on Fridays from January to March, 2024, Finola and her small acting troupe will visit schools to re-enact key moments and themes in the Modern Irish Section of the Leaving Certificate History curriculum. The 60- minute performance will be followed by a one-hour question-and-answer session, discussing topics as varied as the outbreak of war in Northern Ireland, to the establishment of Television in Ireland, to the cultural and artistic life of the nation during that Later Modern Irish Period, dating from 1922-1993.
The sessions are suitable for fourth to sixth years, with some schools opting for stand-alone Transition Year sessions and/or fifth- and sixth-year options.
